Washington.- The US President's Government, Donald Trump, has announced the cancellation of aid valued at more than 7.5 billion dollars for 223 energy projects in 16 Democratic states, most of them focused on renewable sources.

According to an announcement from the Department of Energy dated Thursday, 321 grants are canceled for the 223 projects that, according to the Government, "did not significantly contribute to meeting the country's energy needs, were not economically viable and would not generate a positive return on investment of public funds." The cut will represent "a saving of approximately 7.56 billion dollars for American taxpayers", according to the text, which does not detail the projects, although it assures that the aid was granted by agencies such as the Clean Energy Demonstration, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, the Grid Modernization or the Advanced Energy Research Projects. The director of the Office of Management and Budget, Russell Vought, the enforcer of many of the cuts implemented by the Trump Administration, assured in a message on the social network X that funding for "the false 'Green New Deal' initiative (of the Joe Biden Government), which aimed to promote the left's climate agenda, will be canceled." Vought specified that the projects were being implemented in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont and Washington, all states governed by Democrats and where Trump's rival, Kamala Harris, was elected in the presidential elections of November.

The Department of Energy's statement also assures that 26% of the 321 canceled subsidies, which were valued at about $3.1 billion, were granted between November 5 of last year, the day of the presidential elections in which Trump won, and January 20, when the Republican took office again. Since his return to the White House the New York magnate has declared war on renewable energy projects, especially paralyzing offshore wind farms in Democratic states on the East Coast, and has opted to promote coal mining or the extraction of hydrocarbons through hydraulic fracturing, in addition to the development of advanced nuclear energy. Trump has insisted that the U.S. must double or triple its electricity production in the coming years to meet the enormous energy demand of the data centers that will support the development of artificial intelligence and that are currently the focus of major investments in the country.
