The Colombian Prosecutor's Office has announced that a 17-year-old Colombian teenager implicated in the attempted assassination of Senator and presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe on June 7th during a campaign event has fled shortly after voluntarily presenting himself to the authorities for a new interrogation.

The teenager was held in a center of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), an entity linked to the Department for Social Prosperity of Colombia, after he voluntarily surrendered to the Prosecutor's Office on Saturday for a new interrogation. The Public Ministry has determined that at least ten people were involved in the preparation and execution of the attack against Senator Uribe, who remains in intensive care at the Santa Fe Foundation Hospital in Bogotá. To date, legal actions have been taken against six people --all of them deprived of their freedom, including Elder José Arteaga Hernández, alias 'El Costeño', the alleged mastermind of the attack, and another 15-year-old teenager who fired the shot, who is scheduled to be formally charged on August 4th in accordance with the juvenile criminal responsibility system. The assassination attempt took place on June 7 in the town of Fontibón, in Bogotá, the country's capital, during a campaign event. The senator was seriously injured after suffering two shots to the head and one to the leg.
