MSF calls for dismantling the US and Israel's "deadly aid distribution scheme" in Gaza

Geneva, June 27 (EFE).- The food distribution system promoted by the US and Israel through the "Humanitarian Foundation in Gaza", launched a month ago and which has caused almost 500 deaths and almost 3,000 injuries, "must be dismantled immediately", said the organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in a statement.

The scheme "deliberately degrades the Palestinian population, forcing them to choose between starving to death or risking their lives for minimal supplies," said MSF, urging Israeli authorities and their allies to lift the blockade on the entry of food, fuel, medical and humanitarian supplies.

Furthermore, the UN-coordinated humanitarian aid system that existed before the almost total blockade of aid entry to the Gaza Strip began on March 3, imposed by Israel even before the ceasefire ended, must be reinstated.

"The way supplies are distributed forces thousands of Palestinians, deprived of food for more than a hundred days of the Israeli siege, to travel long distances to reach one of the four distribution points and fight for leftovers," MSF described.

Distribution points are the size of football fields, surrounded by watchtowers, barbed wire and mounds, and the only entrance to them is through a gate, described MSF's emergency coordinator in Gaza, Aitor Zabalgogeazkoa.

"The workers of the Humanitarian Foundation in Gaza leave the pallets and boxes of food, open the gate and allow thousands of people to enter at the same time, so they begin to fight over even the last grain of rice," he reported.
