Noboa declares Cartel de los Soles as terrorists and asks to investigate their involvement in Ecuador

Quito.- The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, declared this Thursday the so-called Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist group with influence on Ecuadorian soil and ordered the National Intelligence Center (CNI) to analyze its influence within the criminal gangs to which the Ecuadorian president declared "war" since the beginning of 2024.

Through a decree, Noboa followed the same line as the government of US President Donald Trump, whose Treasury Department sanctioned the Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist entity at the end of July. The Ecuadorian president took this step when the United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, linked the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, to drug trafficking and announced a reward of 50 million dollars in exchange for information leading to the arrest of the Chavista leader.
