United States.- New York Mets' stellar shortstop, Francisco Lindor, will undergo surgery on his left hand to correct an overload reaction in the hook bone, an injury that would keep him off the field for about six weeks. The information was confirmed by manager Carlos Mendoza after the player was medically evaluated on Tuesday.

According to the team's president of baseball operations, David Stearns, the Puerto Rican player recently began to experience discomfort. However, the organization maintains positive expectations about his recovery and is confident that he will be ready for the start of the regular season on March 26th, when the Mets host the Pirates at Citi Field. At 32 years old, Lindor has shown remarkable physical endurance despite facing various ailments in recent years. In the four most recent seasons, he has averaged 158 games played, a figure that reflects his consistency. Last October, he underwent minor surgery on his right elbow, which prevented him from participating in the World Baseball Classic, and for much of the 2025 season, he played with a fractured toe, in addition to dealing with back problems towards the end of 2024. Despite those physical setbacks, the Puerto Rican has maintained a high level of performance, establishing himself among the most productive shortstops in Major League Baseball and placing within the top ten in voting for the National League Most Valuable Player award in each season since 2022. While his recovery is completed, the Mets have several experienced alternatives at the position within their 40-player roster, including Dominicans Ronny Mauricio and Vidal Bruján. They could also turn to non-roster invitees Christian Arroyo, Jackson Cluff, and Grae Kessinger to cover shortstop during his absence.
