Soto starred in a particular duel against his compatriot Edward Cabrera, Marlins' starting pitcher. In the first inning he was hit by a pitch, then negotiated a walk in the third inning and stole his twenty-fourth base of the year. Shortly after, in the fourth inning, he punished Cabrera with a home run of 386 feet to right-center, bringing the Mets closer on the scoreboard 8-6.

In the sixth inning, he responded again, this time after the relief, with another home run to the same sector, which brought Francisco Lindor to the plate and tied the game at eight runs. The Dominican outfielder finished his performance 2-2, with three runs scored and three RBIs, consolidating his path towards a historic campaign with aspirations of reaching the 30-30 club and surpassing the 40 runs batted in and 100 RBIs.

However, the Mets suffered early on. Starting pitcher David Peterson was punished with five runs in the first inning and ended up conceding eight runs in just two innings of work. Miami took advantage of the situation with a timely offense led by Connor Morby, who drove in three runs, and Joey Wiermer, with three hits and three RBIs.

The Marlins' bullpen secured the victory with Calvin Faucher (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) taking the win, while Tyler Phillips recorded his third save of the season.

Highlighted Line

  • Marlins: Connor Morby 2-1, 3 RBI; Joey Wiermer 5-3, 3 RBI; Agustín Ramírez 5-2, 2 R; Heriberto Hernández 4-2, 1 RBI.
  • Mets: Juan Soto 2-2, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI; Starling Marte 1-0.
  • Pitchers: Edward Cabrera (MIA) 4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 4 K; David Peterson (NYM) 2.0 IP, 9 H, 8 ER.
With this performance, Soto is projected to surpass 40 home runs in 2025, reaffirming his status as one of the league's leading offensive figures, although the defeat leaves the Mets compromised in the divisional fight.
