With this triumph, Miami strung together its fourth consecutive victory and improved its record to 54-55, remaining just one game away from .500 for the first time since April 25. In addition, they secured their sixth consecutive series win, something they hadn't achieved since 1997, the year of their first World Series title. The team holds a 10-1-1 record in their last 12 series. Ramirez, leader among National League rookies in doubles (24), home runs (17), RBIs (50) and runs scored (48), punished two pitches from right-hander Cam Schlittler: a 97.8 mph fastball in the first inning and a "sweeper" hung in the fourth inning, both for solo home runs. Eury Pérez, for his part, limited New York to just two hits, with three walks and five strikeouts, maintaining the great form he showed in July, when he recorded an ERA of 1.29 and the best WHIP in MLB (0.64). The defense was also key: Kyle Stowers threw out a runner at the plate in the first inning and Xavier Edwards starred in a double play in the second. The bullpen completed the ninth shutout of the year for the Marlins — and the third of the week — with an inning from Ronny Henriquez, another from Tyler Phillips, and the save by Calvin Faucher. Miami, which since June 13 has a record of 29-14 (tied with Milwaukee for the most wins in MLB in that period), is now 6.5 games behind the last wild card spot in the National League.
