Unstoppable Brewers
Milwaukee crushed the Pirates 14-0 to string together their second 11-game winning streak in just 38 days, something that hadn't happened in MLB since 2015. Sal Frelick opened with a home run and finished with four times on base, while Brice Turang hit his sixth home run of the month. Freddy Peralta (14-3) pitched six scoreless innings and became the first pitcher with 14 wins this year. The Brewers (75-44) are 7.5 games ahead in the National League Central and are looking for their first 12-game winning streak since 1987.
In a tied game against the Dodgers, the Angels completed the eighth triple play in their history after a line drive by Shohei Ohtani. Zach Neto caught the ball, stepped on second base, and threw to first to complete the play. It's the second triple play for the franchise in the last three years, and Ohtani became only the second reigning MVP to hit into a triple play.
Mariners Approach the Top
George Kirby pitched seven scoreless innings in the 1-0 victory over the Orioles, allowing only three hits. Josh Naylor drove in the only run of the game. With the win, Seattle secured its tenth victory in the last 11 games and tied with Houston for the lead in the American League West.
San Diego defeated the Giants 5-1 and, with L.A.'s loss in Anaheim, tied for the lead in the National League West (68-52). Jackson Merrill sealed the victory with a home run in the eighth inning. Padres and Dodgers will face each other six times in the next 12 days.
