Santo Domingo – The month of August left memorable performances in Major League Baseball, with veterans who reaffirmed their quality and young players who began to establish themselves as future figures. The Dominican Freddy Peralta, of the Milwaukee Brewers, was chosen National League Pitcher of the Month after registering dream numbers. The right-hander finished with a 4-0 record and a microscopic 0.32 ERA in 28 innings, in which he allowed only one run. His rivals barely hit .117 against him and his WHIP was 0.82, consolidating himself as one of the most dominant arms of the moment. In the American League, the Reliever of the Month award went to Cuban Aroldis Chapman, who signed a historic streak with the Boston Red Sox. The lefty did not allow a hit in all of August and faced 34 batters, retiring 33 of them. He closed the month with an ERA of 0.00, WHIP of 0.09, eight saves and 14 strikeouts, showing an almost perfect level. His compatriot Raisel Iglesias, closer for the Atlanta Braves, took the distinction of Reliever of the Month in the National League. The right-hander regained his best form and recorded an ERA of 0.69 and a WHIP of 0.62 in 13 outings, accumulating 10 saves, the most in all of MLB during August. Iglesias did not give up any walks, struck out 13 rivals and was a key piece in the solid performance of the Braves, who had an 11-2 record in the games in which he pitched. In addition to these outstanding Latin arms, the monthly awards recognized player Brice Turang (Brewers) in the National League and Shea Langeliers (Athletics) in the American League, while among the rookies, Jakob Marsee (Marlins) and Roman Anthony (Red Sox) stood out.
