ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay. The Dominican Republic closed the eighth day of the II Junior Pan American Games with outstanding performances, although without being able to add new medals in the youth multi-sport event that is held in the Paraguayan capital. The Caribbean country has so far accumulated one silver medal and one bronze medal.

In an intense Sunday, the men's 3x3 basketball team finished in fourth place after falling 21-16 to Ecuador in the bronze medal match. Juan de los Santos and Rey Abad were the top scorers for the home team with six points each. Earlier, the team had suffered a close 18-16 defeat against Chile in the semifinals. In table tennis, Ramón Vila advanced to the quarterfinals of the individual modality after defeating Enrique Ríos (Puerto Rico) 4-2. The Dominican will face Víctor Ying Xie (USA) this Monday in search of a place in the semifinals. However, the men's, women's and mixed doubles were unable to advance against the representatives of Brazil. In men's volleyball, the national team debuted with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-23) defeat against Brazil at the COP Arena. Adrián Figueroa and Ronny Molina led the Dominican offense with 10 points each. The team will return to the court this Monday against Cuba. In diving, athlete Victoria Garza finished in sixth place in the 10-meter platform with a score of 290.90, while Piera Rufino finished in 15th place in the 3-meter springboard. In open water, Cristina Durán finished in 19th place and Isabella Hernández in 20th, both in the women's 10 km. In the men's category, Juan Diego Núñez took 12th position with a time of 2:02:40.5. In road cycling, Flor Espiritusanto and Melsey Yamely Pérez finished in 19th and 21st positions, respectively, after completing the demanding race on the Costanera of Asunción. The Dominican agenda will continue this Monday with the start of the athletics competitions, participation in water skiing and wakeboard, as well as the continuation of beach volleyball in both categories
