Dominican Republic will close this Friday the preliminary round against Mexico, at 10 pm (Dominican time) and Canada against Cuba. The Caribbean women have the support of the Ministry of Sports and GBC Pharmacies. With that victory, the Dominicans improve their record to 2-2, the same as Puerto Rico, while Canada remains winless (0-4). Madeline Guillen's attack was key for the Dominican Republic to recover from a complicated start, overcoming a five-point deficit in the first set. Florangel Terrero contributed in blocking and attack to secure the end of the partial. Canada tied the match in the second set, thanks to their solid work at the net with Grace Calnan, Emma Boyd, Raya Surinx, and Isabella Noble, managing to stop the Caribbean offensive and taking advantage of reception errors by the Dominicans. In the third set, the Dominicans took the lead from the 8-all point and maintained control despite the push from Surinx and Boyd. The balance in attack and blocking leaned towards Canada's unforced errors, which made the difference. The fourth set was equally contested, with Canada closing in from 18-23 to 22-23 powered by Sydney Grills, but Terrero and Tapia sealed the victory for the Dominican Republic with powerful attacks. The Caribbean dominated in attack (57-40), while Canada had a slight advantage in blocking (9-8). Both teams achieved 5 aces, but the Dominican Republic conceded more points due to errors (33-26). Madeline Guillen was the top scorer of the match with 29 points. Florangel Terrero with 10, was the second-best scorer for the Dominican team. For Canada, Raya Surinx and Maryn Boldon contributed 14 each, while Emma Boyd contributed 11. The captain of the Dominican Republic, Camila De La Rosa, commented on the team's performance: "It was a very balanced match, it was not an easy match. We lost focus and dropped a set making many mistakes, we failed in reception and serves. We are one step away from the semifinals." Mathew Krueger, coach of Canada, said: “I am very proud of the team today. We have been talking about what it takes to take us to the next level and about decision-making when we attack. I think we implemented it perfectly: we knew when we had to tip. I am very proud of the girls and how they are fighting throughout this tournament.”
