The heavy rains of the last few days have caused damage in several states of Venezuela, including affected homes, the collapse of a bridge and the overflow of sewers, authorities reported. In his Instagram account, the Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez, reported this Tuesday the collapse of a bridge in Sucre that connects with Monagas, and the overflow of sewers in Anzoátegui, all states in the northeast of the country. In Anzoátegui, according to local firefighters, there are 22 affected families. For its part, Civil Protection (PC) indicated on Monday that its officials remain deployed in the cities of Cumaná and Cumanacoa, in Sucre, due to the effects caused by the rise of the Agua Blanca river, due to the rains caused by the transit of tropical wave 48 in Venezuela. You can also read: PC indicated that the Fire Department, the Bolivarian National Armed Force and other local authorities are participating in assistance efforts in response to the situation caused by the rains, which has left at least 20 homes affected, according to the balance offered on Monday by the sole authority of Cumanacoa, Nayade Lockiby, who assured that no deaths have been recorded. In Bolívar state (south, bordering Brazil), the authorities have rescued, after a week of work, the bodies of 12 miners who died after a flood caused by heavy rains, reported on Monday the governor of the region, the Chavista Yulisbeth García.

These deaths add to those reported in August by the Vice Minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection, Juan Carlos Oti, who then reported that six people lost their lives after the heavy rains recorded in Venezuela.

The Minister of Science and Technology of Venezuela, Gabriela Jiménez, recently indicated that the country has recorded 300% more rainfall than expected during 2025, which has affected more than 7,000 families. The rains, which began at the end of June, have also caused damage in a large part of western Venezuela, which includes, among others, the regions of Barinas, Táchira, Trujillo, Mérida, Portuguesa and Guárico (center).
