Every March 15th, World Consumer Rights Day is commemorated, a date intended to promote consumer protection and remember the importance of ensuring fair, transparent, and safe business practices worldwide.
The commemoration has its origin in a speech given in 1962 by the then-President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, who highlighted for the first time before Congress the fundamental rights of consumers, including the right to safety, to information, to choose freely and to be heard.
From that moment on, international organizations and consumer advocacy movements began to promote initiatives to strengthen the protection of citizens against abusive practices in the market. Subsequently, entities such as Consumers International adopted March 15 as a global day to raise awareness of these rights.
World Consumer Rights Day also seeks to encourage the education of the population so that they know their rights when acquiring goods and services, as well as promote the responsibility of companies and institutions to offer safe and quality products.

Each year, governments, social organizations, and consumer protection entities carry out informative campaigns, educational activities, and orientation sessions aimed at strengthening a culture of responsible consumption and respect for citizens' rights.
This commemoration reminds us that consumers have a fundamental role in the economy and that their protection is key to ensuring fairer, more transparent, and sustainable markets.
