Santiago.- The mayor of the municipality of Villa Bisonó (Navarrete), Noel Peralta, denied this Sunday that the shooting attack against his home is related to the eviction carried out days ago in the 27 de Febrero sector, in the community of Los Girasoles, thus denying the rumors circulating on social media and in the community.

Peralta explained, in a press conference offered alongside his wife, the councilwoman Arelys Cabrera, that he had no involvement in that process and stated that it was a strictly private action.

“We didn't know an eviction was going to take place. That was something specific, it wasn't from the Government or the City Council. A landowner claimed what belongs to him. We don't agree with evictions, but neither with invasions”, he maintained.

The governor of Santiago and provincial president of the PRM, Rosa Santos, who also participated in the meeting, confirmed that the eviction was carried out by order of the State lawyer, following a ruling that favored the owner of the disputed land.

“That owner exercised a right granted to him by law. That didn't come from here or from anyone in particular. I want to clarify that so we don't go looking for culprits,” he specified.

The mayor detailed that, at the time of the attack, he was outside Navarrete participating in an activity of the Dominican Municipal League and Fedomu, while his family was sleeping in the house. One of the shots, according to his account, hit the bedroom window and passed a few centimeters from the pillow, where his relatives were resting.

"God protected my family. One of the shots fell next to the bed where my grandson was," he narrated.

Peralta reiterated that he does not know the reasons for the attack and said he trusts that the National Police and the Public Ministry will identify those responsible. Governor Santos assured that the Government will support the investigations "to the ultimate consequences." "We are going to find out who did this, and not only those who acted, but also the masterminds behind it. The Police will offer the results in due course," she stated.
