MESCyT launches Portuguese immersion program; 36 selected students will begin the first stage

Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), incorporated a new group of students into the Portuguese Immersion Program, an initiative that joins the renowned English immersion program, considered one of the institution's flagship projects. In this first stage, 36 Dominican professionals were selected to participate in the program, which will last ten months and will be oriented towards the comprehensive mastery of the Portuguese language, through an intensive and total immersion methodology. The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Franklin García Fermín, highlighted the commitment and effort of the participants, while urging them to go the extra mile in their foreign language training process, underlining the strategic importance of this new program for the academic and professional projection of the beneficiaries.

During the presentation, the Director of Foreign Languages of MESCyT, Giseh Cuesta, urged students to stay focused and disciplined to achieve the goals set and make the most of this opportunity for academic growth. The Portuguese Immersion Program 2026, offered by MESCyT through the Guimarães Rosa Center in Santo Domingo, is aimed at university graduates and combines classes taught by native teachers, along with cultural activities aimed at achieving fluency in the language. The initiative also prepares participants to apply for master's programs at universities in Brazil. The calls for this program usually open at the end or beginning of each year, as happened in the periods 2024 and 2025. The MESCyT recommends that interested parties stay tuned to their social media and their official website, where the requirements and application dates are published.
