"MP should not request preventive prison," says lawyer of the Espaillat brothers

Santo Domingo.- Miguel Valerio, lawyer for businessman Antonio Espaillat, stated this Thursday that the Public Ministry should not request a coercive measure consisting of preventive detention against his client. In that sense, the lawyer said that his client does not represent a flight risk, while expressing that they are willing to face the judicial process that will be carried out against them for involuntary manslaughter. Likewise, he highlighted that the Espaillat family "is very humane", emphasizing that they did not want the tragedy that occurred on the morning of April 8th, which claimed the lives of 236 people. The arrest of Antonio Espaillat and his sister, Maribel, occurs 24 hours after the technical report on the tragedy was submitted to the accusing body. The Espaillat siblings were transferred to the jail of the Palace of Justice of Ciudad Nueva.

"No hemos visto las evidencias de este caso y hay que aclarar que es un homicidio involuntario. Nadie quería que eso ocurriera. Además, la voluntad de la familia Espaillat es que nadie que haya quedado huérfano quede desamparado",

reveló el abogado.
According to the accusation, the now-charged individuals not only ignored the urgent need to repair the establishment's roof, but also allegedly attempted to obstruct the investigation, pressuring employees of the company operating the place to silence key testimonies. It is expected that in the next few hours the Espaillat brothers will file the request for a coercive measure against the accused, to later be presented before a judge for a coercive measure to be determined.
