Santiago.- The Public Ministry requested the court to declare the judicial process complex against six defendants accused of participating in the group rape of Génesis Peña López, which occurred last March in Villa González. The measure seeks to give more time to the investigation due to the plurality of defendants, the seriousness of the crime, and the massive dissemination of the audiovisuals of the event.
The declaration of a complex case, contemplated in article 369 of the Criminal Procedure Code, is requested when a file presents extraordinary circumstances that require special deadlines to gather evidence and prosecute the defendants.
In this case, the authorities highlighted the existence of multiple defendants and the organized nature of the aggression.

The Public Ministry maintains that the organized nature of the crime, added to the use of digital platforms to propagate the videos, reinforces the need to extend the investigation periods. In addition, it requested authorization for INACIF and the Cyber Police to track and eliminate the disseminated content.
