Santo Domingo Oeste. – The Santo Domingo Oeste Prosecutor's Office became the scene of a protest this Friday, after hundreds of people affected by the millionaire fraud of the Cooperativa Coop Herrera gathered in front of its facilities. The protesters seek to pressure the justice system within the framework of the preliminary hearing against the main directors of the cooperative.
Among the accused are Jorge Eligio Méndez and Gabriel Santana Borsilea, who face charges for a fraud that, according to investigations, exceeds 2.5 billion pesos. The magnitude of the scam has left hundreds of savers in a difficult economic situation, generating outrage and frustration.
Mayra Portorreal, one of those affected, expressed her concern about the slowness of the judicial process.
"We see that the Public Ministry is taking too long. We call on the authorities: we want the process to be expedited, justice to be done and, above all, for our savings to be returned to us," said Porto Real.
