Panama.- Panamanian singer-songwriter and actor Rubén Blades, awarded with multiple prizes, including the Grammy, announced that 2027 will be his "last active year on musical tours", as he wishes to settle "more permanently in
Panama, no later than 2028".
"I have decided not to continue with the hustle of personal musical performances. I'm turning 78 and I hope I have the health and voice to stay active for a couple more years, as long as I can still maintain the quality that I have always tried to present to the public that supports us in the concerts," Blades wrote in a long statement released in the last few hours.
The singer-songwriter of great hits like 'Pedro Navaja' or 'Decisiones' stated that in 2026 he will visit "Europe with Roberto Delgado's band", the only one with which he performs at this stage of his career, to have "the pleasure of being with them there, one last time".
«2027 would be my last active year on tour with Roberto Delgado's band, although we may continue recording together. I long to be back and more permanently in Panama, no later than 2028», he expressed.
Blades (1948), who has acted in films such as 'Érase una vez en México' (2002) or appeared in television series such as 'The X-Files' (1997), will begin filming next March in Austin (USA) the film "titled 'Armadillo United', with Antonio Banderas, Danay García, Danny Trejo and my wife, Luba Mason, and which is about soccer and young players (watch out for the star of the film, a boy named Dante)," he said.
A journey through his musical career
As part of his agenda this year, the one also known as 'The Poet of Salsa' continues to 'prepare an edition of all the lyrics' of his songs 'which will be accompanied by an explanation of themes, albums and motives' that led him to create them.
“I am working on two ‘salsa’ albums with Roberto (one of them is a subgroup within the same orchestra) and finishing another album, in the ‘Mixtura’ style, with my colleague, friend and co-producer, Luis Enrique Becerra, accomplice of my other group, Paraíso Road Gang,” he specified.
