The Spanish government confirmed that it evacuated with success the ambassador and essential staff from its embassy in Tehran, amid the growing military tension in the Middle East following the attacks against Iran.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, who reported via social media that the operation was completed without incident. The official stressed that the safety of Spanish citizens and diplomatic staff is the government's priority.
As Albares explained, diplomatic staff left the Iranian capital crossing the border into Azerbaijan, as part of the evacuation plan prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the face of the deteriorating situation in the region.
The Spanish government also indicated that the rest of the Spanish embassies in the region remain operational 24 hours a day, assisting citizens through emergency telephones and consular assistance systems.
