The BritchamDR YMoCA 2026 Grand Final Arrives at the National Theater

In its fourth edition, nine young Caribbean musicians will gather to demonstrate their talent in Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo.- The new generation of Caribbean classical musicians will meet again in the Grand Final of the Young Musician of the Caribbean Award (BritchamDR YMoCA), next Tuesday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m., in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, in a concert open to the public that will culminate with the selection and awarding of the winners.


The evening, which celebrates its fourth edition in 2026, will bring together nine young instrumentalists from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Cuba, selected after a rigorous international evaluation process that began with an open call to musicians from the Caribbean islands, between 12 and 26 years old.

Organized by the British Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (BritchamDR), in partnership with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), of London, and Bangor University, of Wales, this award has established itself as a unique platform for projection, cultural exchange, and training for new generations of performers in the region.


In the Junior category, Dominican pianist Filippo Ciuccarelli, Puerto Rican violinist Sergio Aranibar, and Dominican marimbist Jean Marco Civil Rosello will compete.

The Senior category will feature the participation of Cuban flutist Darío Cuba Hernández, Puerto Rican pianist Adriel Montañez Medina, and Dominican clarinetist Héctor Almánzar García.


For their part, in the Young Professional category, Puerto Rican violinists Javier Torres Delgado and Rachel Alers Mercado, as well as Dominican pianist Manuel De la Rosa Modesto, will perform.


During the Grand Final, the participants will perform a program of high technical and artistic level before an international jury composed of prominent British professionals: Simon Lepper, renowned British pianist, deputy director of the Piano Department and vocal repertoire coach at the Royal College of Music; Andrea Gajic, Scottish violinist, head of the Strings Department at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and Claire Wickes, principal flutist of the English National Opera Orchestra.

Beyond the competition, the BritchamDR YMoCA stands out for its formative approach. Winners will receive certificates, trophies, and scholarships to participate in prestigious summer music programs in the United Kingdom, while finalists gain access to personalized masterclasses taught by the jury during their stay in the country.
Since its creation in 2019, more than 200 young musicians from eleven Caribbean islands have applied for the award, strengthening cultural exchange between the region and the United Kingdom.
The initiative has the valuable support of the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Culture, Sinfonía Foundation, Refidomsa Foundation and Friends of the National Theater Foundation.
