The economic demand breaks with the principle of free and accessible education that should govern public education.
Santo Domingo.— Students from the 6th grade of the Kelbin David Polytechnic, located in Los Frailes, have been summoned to participate in the National Tests from June 24 to 27, 2025. However, the communication sent through an official school messaging group has generated controversy for including a request for a mandatory economic contribution of RD$150 pesos per student as a contribution for the “judges participating in the tests”.
The request, described by parents as irregular, has sparked concern in the educational community. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education (MINERD), the National Tests are a free process, and no public or private educational center is authorized to demand direct payments from students to cover logistics, personnel, or any other expense related to their application.
In addition to the questioned charge, the statement establishes that students must attend at 8:00 a.m., without backpacks or cell phones, and wearing their full traditional uniform, with an express prohibition on using accessories.
