Iran has acknowledged the death of Basij militia commander, Gholamreza Soleimani, in an attack claimed by Israel this Monday. In addition, Israeli authorities announced the death of Ali Larijani, Iranian security chief, in the context of an escalation of clashes in the region. At the same time, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, openly criticized the allies of NATO, stating that "we no longer need or desire" their help in the war against Iran, despite having previously requested their military support.
The refusal of a growing list of countries, including several European powers, to join the protection of the Strait of Hormuz led the US president to describe their requests as a "test." In this context, the director of the US National Counterterrorism Center submitted his resignation, arguing that "he cannot, in good conscience, support the war in Iran."
Tension spread to the Gulf countries. Qatar and the United Arab Emirates reported that they intercepted missiles launched by Iran during the day. Meanwhile, in Lebanon, the Ministry of Health reported that the number of deaths from the Israeli offensive exceeded 900.
