Bogotá.- The health of the Colombian senator and presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay has had a "de-escalation of his critical condition" after 16 days since the attack in which he was seriously injured with two shots to the head, reported this Tuesday the Santa Fe Foundation of Bogotá, where he is admitted.

Uribe Turbay, 39 years old, "has permanently received, and specifically in the last 72 hours medical and surgical care, including tracheotomy and gastrostomy, relevant to the de-escalation of his critical condition, entering a new subacute phase after exceeding 16 days of evolution of the incident", Santa Fe indicated. This is the first medical report released by the clinic since last Wednesday and indicates that the politician remains in "serious condition" and with a "guarded neurological prognosis".

On Saturday, June 7, Uribe Turbay was the victim of a shooting in the west of Bogotá. The attack occurred in the district of Fontibón. The Prosecutor's Office then reported that the senator received three bullet wounds.

Uribe Turbay has been a senator for the Democratic Center party since 2022. Previously, he was a councilman for Bogotá and Secretary of Government during the administration of Enrique Peñalosa. In October 2024, he launched his presidential pre-candidacy from the place where his mother was murdered, an event that, he said, marked his personal and political trajectory. A third person was arrested in the framework of the investigation into the attack. According to the Attorney General's Office, it is Katerine Andrea Martínez Martínez, who was arrested as a suspect of having "participated in the planning of the armed attack".
