Kiev, June 30 (EFE).- German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul traveled to Ukraine this Monday to reaffirm Berlin's support for Kiev and insist on the need to continue pressuring Russia to force it to declare the ceasefire demanded by the Ukrainians.

"(Russian President Vladimir) Putin is not giving in on any of his maximalist demands: he does not want negotiations, he wants capitulation. And as long as this happens, we will continue to limit Putin's ability to finance this criminal war through sanctions. We are working intensely on this within the European Union and together with our G7 partners," the minister declared in a statement about his first trip to Ukraine.

Wadephul added that in Ukraine it is decided whether Europe remains "a place where freedom and human dignity are valued" or becomes "a continent where violence transcends borders".

The head of German diplomacy also referred to the increase in defense spending to at least 5% of GDP agreed by NATO countries as a key factor in guaranteeing the security of the European continent.
