Australian police search for the perpetrator of a shooting with two dead officers on the run

Sydney (Australia).- Australian police continue the search for the perpetrator of a shooting that killed two officers and injured another on Tuesday near the rural town of Porepunkah, in the northeast of the state of Victoria, southeast of the country. The chief commissioner of Victoria Police, Mike Bush, indicated in a press conference that the perpetrator of the murders "is heavily armed and is a dangerous man" of whom they were already aware.

Bush, who avoided sharing details about what happened, asked citizens to remain "inside their homes" while the man, who fled on foot, remains at large. "Surrender, for the good of the community and to settle this incident peacefully," the commissioner requested. Victoria Police deployed special units today, including armored vehicles, camouflaged tactical teams, and canine brigades, to apprehend the suspect. As confirmed, the agents had gone to the scene of the incident as part of an operation involving a dozen agents when the armed confrontation occurred. "Seven of them were unharmed and are traumatized," detailed Mike Bush. Local authorities closed municipal facilities and ordered the lockdown of several schools in the area as a precautionary measure. Victoria Ambulance services are treating an unidentified person, possibly the third police officer, for serious injuries to the lower body, although they are in stable condition. The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, today expressed his support for the police for their work and said that "they take risks for the rest of the citizens."
