COE places 5 provinces in red, 9 in yellow, and 5 in green due to rains

Santo Domingo.– The Emergency Operations Center (COE) increased this Friday to 19 the provinces under alert due to the downpours, electrical storms and gusts of wind caused by the incidence of an active tropical wave combined with a trough aloft.

According to the bulletin from the National Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), the rainfall affects from the afternoon hours to La Altagracia, El Seibo, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Peravia, Azua, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago and Puerto Plata, and it is expected to continue during the night, extending to other provinces. In yellow are another nine: María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, Samaná, La Romana, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, and San Juan. While in green remain five demarcations: Barahona, Pedernales, Peravia, Sánchez Ramírez, and Puerto Plata. The agency warned of possible rises in rivers, streams, and ravines, as well as urban and flash floods, and recommended that residents in vulnerable areas remain attentive to the guidance of the authorities. It also called for not crossing rivers or using spas in the provinces under alert. Regarding maritime conditions, the COE reported that from Cabo Engaño (La Altagracia) to Cabo Francés Viejo (María Trinidad Sánchez), fragile, small, and medium-sized vessels should navigate with caution and avoid going out to sea due to dangerous waves and wind.
