Steelers' Skylar Thompson suffers injuries after being assaulted in Dublin ahead of historic NFL clash in Ireland

DUBLIN (EFE). — The backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Skylar Thompson, suffered minor injuries after being the victim of an assault in the early hours of Saturday in Dublin, a city that this Sunday hosts for the first time an official regular season game of the NFL. We will not be making any further comments at this time, as we are working with the NFL security team to gather more information about the incident," said a Steelers spokesperson via NFL Network. Thompson, 28, is facing his fourth season in the league and his first with the Pittsburgh franchise. The quarterback, who has been dealing with hamstring issues since September 10th, still traveled with the team to Ireland despite being on the injured list. According to league sources, the player was assaulted during a night out, but managed to return on his own to the hotel where the team is staying. This Sunday he was seen on the pitch of Croke Park prior to the match against the Minnesota Vikings, although he did not participate in the match. The match in Dublin corresponds to week four of the calendar and is part of the NFL's ambitious internationalization plan, which in 2025 includes seven games outside the United States: one in Brazil, three in London, one in Berlin, and the closing in Madrid, on November 16th, with the match between Dolphins and Commanders at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. It's not the first time a player has been involved in off-field incidents in the run-up to an international match. In 2018, four members of the Jacksonville Jaguars were detained in London due to a problem in a bar, although the charges were later dropped after the corresponding debt was paid.
