Washington.- The Senate of the United States approved this Tuesday in a block vote of 51 to 47 a total of 107 nominees of the president, Donald Trump, for ambassador positions, federal prosecutors and senior officials of government agencies. Herschel Walker, former American football player and close Trump ally, was designated as the United States ambassador to the Bahamas. In addition, federal prosecutors for the districts of Iowa and South Dakota were approved. The vote was held under the new Senate rules that allow the approval of multiple nominees with a simple majority, without the need for the traditional 60 votes. This mass confirmation occurred amidst the partial government shutdown, which has affected various federal agencies. Republicans in the Senate have used this strategy to advance President Trump's nominations agenda, while Democrats have expressed concern about the speed of the process and the lack of debate.

Other Trump-associated officials who were confirmed are Paul Atkins, as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) until 2031, whose permanence has been questioned for his conservative approach to financial regulation; Brandon Judd, former director of the National Border Patrol Council, appointed as ambassador to Chile and criticized for his hardline stance on immigration issues. Finally, it highlights the appointment of Sergio Gor, a former close advisor to Trump, as the United States ambassador to India, whose confirmation generated debate due to his limited diplomatic experience. With this action, the Senate has managed to significantly reduce the number of pending nominees, leaving only 26 to be confirmed: 16 for executive positions and 10 for judicial roles.
