Qatar confirms on behalf of mediators the first phase ceasefire agreement in Gaza

Qatar confirmed this morning on behalf of "the mediators" the agreement for a first phase of a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, which "will entail the end of the war, the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of humanitarian aid." This was indicated by the spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed al Ansari, in a brief statement on the social network X, in which he indicated that "the details (of the agreement) will be announced later."

"Mediators announced that an agreement has been reached tonight on all terms and mechanisms for the implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza," Al Ansari's message indicated. This Wednesday evening, already early in the morning in the Middle East, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that Israel and Hamas have agreed to sign the first phase of a peace framework that will allow the rapid release of all hostages and a delimited withdrawal of Israeli forces in Gaza. Trump said on his official Truth social media account that this means "Israel will withdraw its troops to an agreed line as first steps towards a solid, lasting and eternal peace" and that "ALL hostages will be released very soon". Shortly after, both Hamas and Israel confirmed the agreement "to end the war of extermination" in Gaza, as the Palestinian Islamist organization said, or "to bring home all the precious hostages," as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. The first points of the peace plan for Gaza proposed by Trump include the cessation of the Israeli offensive on Gaza and the release within 72 hours of all hostages held by Hamas, both alive and dead. In addition, it also proposes the disarmament of the group, the withdrawal of Israel from the enclave and the formation of a transitional government in the Strip, among other things that should be carried out in later phases.
