Defense denies relationship and expects minimum measure to be imposed on Rafael Martínez Hazim in Senasa case

Santo Domingo.- Rafael Martínez Hazim's defense assured that they have demonstrated that the defendant has no family ties with Santiago Hazim Albainy, a central figure in the so-called Operation Cobra, which involves the misappropriation of funds exceeding RD$15 billion pesos.

According to the statements offered by lawyer Carlos Balcacer, he described as "low density" the evidence that the Public Ministry collected to blame Rafael Martínez Hazim, for which he hopes that a coercive measure will not be imposed on him because his "level of participation is minimal within the file" Balcacer pointed out that, of the RD$15 million that the prosecution alleges, only 33%, equivalent to RD$4 million, was "worked", so this should be classified as "minor fraud".

Balcacer pointed out that the Public Ministry "wanted to make a mountain of accusations", and clarified that Martínez Hazim "is not a doctor". Furthermore, I clarify that there is no relationship between the former director of Senasa, Santiago Hazim Albainy, and his client, Rafael Martinez Hazim. "We proved that he was not a relative of Hazim as the Public Ministry had stated," noted the renowned jurist. He added that his client is unwilling to cooperate or offer information that compromises third parties in the corruption case that accuses a group of people of having stolen money from public assets through the National Health Insurance (Senasa). The Public Ministry is requesting 18 months of preventive prison against those involved in the case and the knowledge of the coercion measure request will continue on Friday at 2 in the afternoon.
