Frente Amplio holds 6th walk in protest against corruption in the SENASA case

The political party also demands the withdrawal of foreign forces from the Caribbean.

Santo Domingo.– Under the slogans of “Corruption robs us of life and health, the theft at SeNaSa leaves me without health and the Caribbean Zone of Peace”, the Frente Amplio held its 6th Walk - Protest, demanding total punishment against all those responsible for the corruption network that operated in the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa). Similarly, they demand the immediate withdrawal of US military forces from Dominican territory and the Caribbean, in defense of national sovereignty. The protest march started from the San Carlos club, located on Mexico Avenue, and concluded at the bust of Caamaño on El Conde street. The Broad Front acknowledged the recent arrests of those implicated in Operation Cobra as an important step, but noted that not a single participant in the criminal network should be left without exemplary punishment. The organization reiterated that in this case, serious administrative irregularities, millionaire diversions of public funds, parallel accounting, bribes, duplicate invoices, irregular payments to private providers, and programs with billions without identified beneficiaries are being investigated, which could translate into incalculable damage to the lives of the population.

"Such an exemplary punishment is needed that no one else would even think of stealing public money, which is the people's money, therefore no one who has participated in the theft of health money from families, especially the poorest, can go unpunished," said the spokeswoman for the political entity, María Teresa Cabrera.

Defense of national sovereignty

The political organization also protested in defense of national sovereignty, deeply wounded by President Luis Abinader's decision to authorize the United States to use spaces at the San Isidro Air Base and the Las Américas International Airport for logistical operations that, although using the fight against drug trafficking as a pretext, we know that the real reason is the intention to attack Venezuela to seize its oil and natural resources.

He reiterated that said authorization constitutes a violation of the constitutional order and a serious precedent for national sovereignty. “The country cannot accept the entry of foreign military forces under ambiguous pretexts. Every concession of territory, air facilities, or military installations represents a dangerous renunciation of our independence, especially in a context of regional tensions,” indicated Cabrera, recalling that Constitutional Court Ruling TC/0315/15 prohibits agreements that grant privileges or foreign military presence without effective Dominican supervision. He insisted that the Dominican Republic should not be used as a platform for conflicts that respond to external geopolitical interests and reiterated that the principle of non-intervention is an essential pillar of the Dominican Constitution.

"This walk is not just a protest; it is an act of dignity and defense of the country's sovereignty. We march for justice in SeNaSa, we march for the health of the people, we march for the sovereignty that belongs to us," concluded Cabrera.
