Venezuela begins to release detained US citizens, State Department confirms

The U.S. administration celebrates the announcement that several U.S. citizens who were detained in Venezuela have been released, in a process that comes days after U.S. forces captured former President Nicolás Maduro. The releases are part of a broader series of releases in Venezuela, where the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, stated that hundreds of prisoners —including Venezuelans and foreigners— would be released as a gesture towards peace; however, human rights organizations have questioned the official figures and the lack of transparency in the process.
