NEW YORK (EFE).– The New York Giants announced the hiring of John Harbaugh as their new head coach for a period of five years, making him one of the franchise's most ambitious bets to begin a new stage of reconstruction in the NFL.

Harbaugh, 63 years old, signed a contract that places him among the highest-paid coaches in the league, with earnings close to US$20 million per season, according to NFL Network. The Giants are coming off one of their worst recent campaigns. Following the firing of Brian Daboll in November, the team finished the 2025 regular season with a record of 4-13, under the interim direction of offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, the fifth-worst record among the 32 NFL franchises. Since the departure of Tom Coughlin in 2015, New York had gone through constant instability at the head coaching position, with Ben McAdoo, Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, and Daboll at the helm without managing to consolidate a winning project.7 Harbaugh arrives in New York after 18 seasons as coach of the Baltimore Ravens (2008-2025), one of the most successful periods in the recent history of the franchise. During that period he won the Super Bowl XLVII, obtained two American Conference titles, six divisional championships and was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2019. Harbaugh was fired by the Ravens on January 7, after a 2025 season in which the team finished with a record of 8-9 and was left out of the playoffs. His availability immediately made him one of the most sought-after coaches on the market.Although he had scheduled interviews with teams like Tennessee, Atlanta, and Miami, the Giants moved quickly and, after a meeting last Wednesday, closed the deal before he could hear other offers.
