Dajabón. – President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Sunday a set of hydraulic works that will facilitate the irrigation of 20,220 tareas and will impact 324 producers. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the rehabilitation of the La Vigía irrigation canal, the construction of the intake structure on the Dajabón River as it passes through La Aduana Vieja, and the construction of the pumping line for the replenishment of the Veteranos 0, Veteranos 1 and Don Pedro dikes, built through the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi), were inaugurated. Junior Bernard, president of the Dajabón Irrigation Board, expressed his happiness at having these works in operation, understanding that they will now be able to cultivate lands that were previously abandoned and that thanks to the listening of President Abinader, are now a reality. "This is a humane and attentive management with the farmers of the border," Bernard told the president. The director of Indrhi, Olmedo Caba, explained that the La Vigía canal was rehabilitated over 3.5 kilometers, in discontinuous sections, with a raising over a length of 2 kilometers to conduct a greater flow of water, and its cleaning over 7 kilometers with heavy equipment and brigades.

The canal intake on the Dajabón River was built in reinforced concrete protected with gabion walls, with a 60-inch pipe intake channel, control gate and protection grill, interconnecting the channel with 48-inch pipes. For pumping, he specified, a central station was enabled with a 9-meter deep sump where a novel system composed of 2 submersible electro-pumps with a capacity of 12,000 GPM each was installed. Meanwhile, for the feedback of the dikes, Olmedo Caba explained that 9 pumping stations were built with turbine-type electric pumps with a capacity of between 300 and 800 GPM, protected in their booths. In addition to this, 13 kilometers of berms and access roads to productive areas were rehabilitated with a view to facilitating the transport of products for their trade and increasing safety in the area. Likewise, the stations along the La Vigía canal were electrified.
