Santo Domingo.– The rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Las Américas (ITLA), Rafael Feliz García, assured that 92% of the students of that institution get a job before finishing their degree, a clear evidence, he said, of the high demand and relevance of the academic offer of the center.

During his participation in the program El Sol de la Tarde, the rector pointed out that all the careers taught at ITLA are aligned with the needs of the national productive sector. He indicated that programs such as Software Development and Cybersecurity concentrate 70% of the student demand, with more than 1,500 applicants per call for only 150 available places.

However, he warned about the low demand in careers with high job prospects, such as the technologist in Medical Device Manufacturing, created in conjunction with the country's Medical Device Cluster. He attributed this situation to the lack of vocational guidance from an early age.

“We recently held orientation sessions, but this type of initiative should not rest solely on ITLA. A national strategy is required to promote awareness of these opportunities from the earliest educational levels,” he/she said.

Feliz García also announced that ITLA will celebrate its 25th anniversary in August, right after being certified as a Specialized Institute by the National Council of Higher Education, Science and Technology (CONESCyT), after passing two five-year evaluations.

“Today's ITLA is the result of 25 years of institutional maturity and commitment to excellence. Our vision is guided by the 'Triple Helix' model, which integrates the State, academia, and the private sector as pillars for innovative training with a high impact on economic development,” he concluded.
