Woman dies stabbed by her partner in Los Guaricanos; attacker is detained

Santo Domingo Norte.– A 61-year-old woman died this Monday after being stabbed by her partner in an incident that occurred in the community of Ponce Adentro, in the Los Guaricanos sector, Santo Domingo Norte municipality.

The victim was identified as María Cecilia Reynoso Gómez, who died while receiving medical attention at the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Traumatology Hospital Lora, due to multiple injuries caused during a fight with her partner for apparent passionate reasons.

According to the preliminary report from the National Police, residents of the area heard screams coming from the house where the couple lived. Upon approaching, they observed the aggressor attacking the woman with a bladed weapon. Upon noticing the presence of witnesses, the man left the house with the weapon in his hand and sat on a wall in front of the house, while the victim lay seriously injured in the gallery.

Thanks to the intervention of the neighbors, Reynoso Gómez was transferred in a vehicle to the health center, where her death was later confirmed.

At the crime scene, members of the Scientific Police collected two knives with bloodstains. One of them had an approximate length of 10 inches. The medical examiner Dr. Anyi Vicioso certified the death and detailed that the victim presented multiple stab wounds in various parts of the body.

The alleged aggressor, identified as Juan Arturo Santiago, 69 years old, was arrested at the scene. The man also had head injuries and one of his hands. Authorities reported that the detainee has a criminal record for attempted murder in 2007.

The Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case and is expected to request a coercive measure against the accused in the next few hours.
