Rio de Janeiro.- The former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to 24 years and three months for sedition, entered the operating room this Monday to undergo a second intervention to end the hiccups he has been suffering from for months, his wife reported.
The far-right leader underwent a first surgery on Saturday to try to stop the involuntary contractions, but it was unsuccessful and he spent the night awake due to a new crisis. "My love just went to the surgical center to undergo the second phrenic nerve block procedure," said the former president's wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, on social media. In the first intervention, doctors blocked the right side of the phrenic nerve and will do so on the left side this Monday, to see if they can stop the hiccups of the far-right leader, which, apparently, are the result of the stabbing he suffered during the 2018 presidential campaign. On Sunday, Bolsonaro remained "stable and without hiccups" and continued with post-operative care from the inguinal hernia surgery he underwent on Christmas Day, according to the medical bulletin released in the afternoon. The far-right leader left the Federal Police headquarters in Brasilia, where he is serving his sentence, on December 24 to undergo bilateral inguinal hernia surgery.
