Rubio's statement adds to the multiple pronouncements by national and international leaders who have rejected the crime and demanded its clarification. Uribe Turbay, 39 years old and a senator for the right-wing party Centro Democrático, had been admitted since the day of the attack to the Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá clinic where he underwent several surgical interventions and although he did improve somewhat, he never overcame the critical state.Uribe Turbay received two shots to the head and one to the left leg while leading a political rally in a park in the Bogotá neighborhood of Modelia as part of his political activity in the run-up to the 2026 presidential elections, in which he aspired to obtain the nomination of the Democratic Center.Last Saturday, Santa Fe reported that the politician had suffered a hemorrhage in the nervous system that worsened his health condition.
