New York Book Fair Pays Tribute to Rosario Castellanos and Pedro Lemebel

New York.- The International Book Fair in New York, which will be held between October 22 and 26, will pay tribute this year -in its seventh edition- to Rosario Castellanos, considered one of the most important Mexican writers of the 20th century, and to the Chilean Pedro Lemebel, who was a reference in homosexual and protest literature. This event, which brings together writers, publishers, universities, libraries, and readers every year, will take place at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, under the theme "Music in Literature", and will feature Mexican Cristina Rivera Garza, 2024 Pulitzer Prize winner, and Argentine Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, finalist for the International Booker Prize in 2024, according to a statement from the organizers.

"The seventh edition transcends the boundaries of the written word. As a living language of creation, reflection, and encounter in the United States," said José Higuera López, founding president of the cultural event, in a statement.

"With the theme 'Music in Literature', it presents the dynamics of interaction that music has in literature. Both are inseparable and converge to give life to a wide range of cultural expressions, whose diversity is evident in the variants of Spanish in Latin America, Spain and the United States", said Higuera López.

Among the wide variety of forums are: "New Feathers: chronicle in Spanish from the United States", "Narrative Rhythms: musicalities and sonorities of Spanish", "Homage to Rosario Castellanos: matter that burns, voice that endures", "At the Edge of Difference: reading Lemebel/At the Edge of Difference" and "Macondo York: Gabo among skyscrapers". The Book Fair, which will also feature book presentations, workshops, and other events, is organized by the Mexican Studies Institute, Lehman College of the City University of New York system (CUNY) and John Jay College.
