Luka Dončić gets the green light to play for Slovenia after a scare on his knee

LOS ANGELES. – The star of the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Dončić, was authorized to return to action with the Slovenia national team, after suffering a scare due to injury last weekend in a preparation match for the EuroBasket 2025.

On Saturday, during a friendly match against Latvia, Dončić limped off the court after a teammate fell on his legs. The guard asked to be substituted and went straight to the locker room, which raised alarms among Lakers fans and his national team. After medical evaluations, the diagnosis was a minor contusion on the knee, ruling out major complications. The Basketball Federation of Slovenia confirmed this Monday that Dončić will be available for tomorrow's Tuesday match against Great Britain, thus dispelling doubts about his participation in the final stretch of the preparation.

A key summer for Dončić

The Slovenian, who arrived at the Lakers in February after a surprising trade from Dallas, has worked intensely on his physical conditioning, an aspect that had been pointed out as one of his weaknesses in the past. In the preparation games he has shown a lighter and more dynamic version, scoring 19 points against Germany and 26 in the first half against Latvia before being injured.

EuroBasket 2025 in sight

The continental tournament will officially begin on August 27, with Slovenia debuting the following day against Poland in Group C, which also includes Iceland, France, Belgium, and Israel. Dončić's recovery represents a relief for both his team and the Lakers, who see him as the cornerstone of their long-term project and couldn't afford to lose him to an injury in a preparation match.
