The incident, which left a balance of four people dead, including an officer of the New York City Police Department, generated great commotion in the city. The mayor reported in interviews given to several American media outlets that a note written by the attacker was recovered, in which he blamed the NFL for his mental health, indicating that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease associated with repeated impacts to the head. The shooter, a man of 27 years old whose identity has not yet been officially revealed, was described as a former high school football player, with no college or professional experience in the sport. Despite not having played in the NFL, the attacker blamed the league for his condition, as expressed in the note found by the authorities. “He had a note with him. The note alluded to feeling that he had CTE, a brain injury known in those who participate in contact sports. Apparently, he blamed the NFL for his injury”, Adams said in statements to the CBS network. The attacker died at the scene from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigations are ongoing, and a heightened level of security is maintained in the vicinity of the NFL offices in Manhattan. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy has been a topic of extensive debate in recent years within professional sports, especially in American football, where several former players have been diagnosed with the disease after their deaths, which has led to lawsuits and changes in the league's safety protocols. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to fully clarify the reasons behind the tragic event and provide support to the affected families.
