SANTO DOMINGO.- An early rally of three runs in the first inning set the course of the game and led the Leones del Escogido to a 7-3 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas, this Friday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.

The scarlet offensive began with a solo home run by Héctor Rodríguez to right field, a 392-foot hit against Luis Patiño. Then, Yainer Díaz reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a single by Yamaico Navarro. A walk to Franchy Cordero loaded the bases and two consecutive walks to Eguy Rosario and Jonathan Guzmán drove in the other two runs of the inning. The Eagles reacted in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases against Travis Lakins. A sacrifice fly by Juan Lagares drove in Aderlin Rodríguez, and a run-scoring single by Webster Rivas added another for the Cibaeños. However, the Lions responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth. Dervy Ventura opened with a double to left field and scored on a single by Junior Lake. Sócrates Brito reached base on a fielder's choice, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Rivas, before scoring on a single to center by Yainer Díaz. During the game, Junior Lake reached a personal milestone by becoming the fifth player in LIDOM history to steal 130 bases in regular season. The Escogido added one more run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth to secure the victory, improving their record to "17-24", while the Águilas were left with "28-12". The victory went to "Génesis Cabrera (1-0)", who pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout. The loss fell on "Luis Patiño (0-1)", after allowing three runs in two-thirds of an inning. On the offensive for the Lions, Yainer Díaz hit 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored; Héctor Rodríguez, 1-for-5 with a home run, one run scored, and one RBI; Junior Lake, 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored, two walks, and one stolen base; and Sócrates Brito, 1-for-4 with a run scored, a walk, and a steal. For the Eagles, Aderlin Rodríguez went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored, and Webster Rivas, 1-for-4 with one driven in. The Lions will return to action this Saturday, when they receive the Gigantes del Cibao at 4:00 PM at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.
