A 4.8 magnitude earthquake was felt at 19:35 hours this Friday (00:35 GMT Saturday) in
Lima, with no personal or material damage reported so far, according to Peruvian official sources.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 52 kilometers southwest of the coastal city of Supe Puerto, in the province of Barranca, in northern Lima, the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) indicated.
The depth of the tremor was established at 29 kilometers, in the Pacific Ocean, and reached an intensity of III in Supe Puerto, about 180 kilometers from Metropolitan Lima.

The Hydrography and Navigation Directorate of the Peruvian Navy added that the earthquake "does not generate a tsunami on the Peruvian coast."
For its part, the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) and the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported on the telluric movement, but did not report that it has caused any type of personal or material damage.
Peru is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where more than 80% of the world's seismic activity occurs, due to the collision of the Pacific tectonic plate with the Nazca plate, on the south coast.
The last devastating earthquake in the country occurred in August 2007 in the southern region of Ica, where it reached a magnitude of 7.9 and left about 500 dead and millions in economic losses.
