Santo Domingo. – The National Council for Disability (Conadis), together with public and private institutions and civil society organizations, announced a broad agenda of activities that will be carried out throughout the country on the occasion of Disability Week 2025, with the purpose of promoting the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with disabilities.
The day will begin on Monday, December 1st with the presentation of the institutional advances corresponding to the year 2025, as well as the work perspectives for 2026, focused on the strengthening of inclusive public policies and the development of a more accessible and equitable society.
In this act, the 2025–2035 National Disability Plan will also be presented, a ten-year national strategy that establishes the priority lines to guarantee the full exercise of the rights of people with disabilities in the Dominican Republic.
As part of the programming, the authorities of Conadis will participate in meetings with families of students with disabilities, organized in coordination with the Ministry of Education, with the aim of strengthening the link with the educational communities.
In addition, a play starring people with disabilities will be presented, highlighting their artistic talent and promoting access to culture as a fundamental right.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities – December 3
On Wednesday, December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the traditional mass will be celebrated in the Primate Cathedral of America at 9:00 in the morning, followed by a walk to the Altar of the Fatherland, where a floral offering will be deposited.
Within the framework of this commemoration, international cooperation agreements will also be signed with allied organizations, as part of the efforts to strengthen inclusion policies at the national level.
Also, simultaneous activities will be developed in different provinces of the country, driven by public and private institutions, and non-profit associations (NPAs), reaffirming the national character of this day.
Other agenda activities
As part of the weekly program, a tree planting day will be held in accessible spaces of the National District, promoting the right to the environment for people with disabilities.
Similarly, Conadis will deliver support devices, including positioning chairs and sports chairs, aimed at foundations, clubs, and federations that actively work for inclusion.
The institution will also participate in the inauguration of an inclusive park, in coordination with civil society organizations, reaffirming its commitment to universal accessibility.
Finally, from December 5 to 7, Conadis will accompany the Dominican delegation that will represent the country in the 3x3 World Basketball Tournament, to be held in Puerto Rico, highlighting the promotion of adapted sports and the development of athletes with disabilities.
