Gabrielle reaches category 4 southeast of Bermuda and causes strong swells in the U.S.

Miami.- Hurricane Gabrielle intensified this Monday to category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with sustained winds of 220 kilometers per hour, and its center is expected to pass east of Bermuda tonight, while its waves will continue to affect the east coast of the United States. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Gabrielle will continue to be felt these days on the east coast of the United States, from North Carolina northward, as well as in Atlantic Canada, and that the swells will cause dangerous rip current and marine conditions. Currently, there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, although authorities asked the population of Bermuda to remain attentive to the evolution of the cyclone. Gabrielle's eye was located this afternoon about 290 kilometers (180 miles) southeast of Bermuda and 3,230 kilometers (2,005 miles) west of the Azores islands. The phenomenon is moving north-northeast at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour (12 miles).

According to the NHC, Gabrielle is expected to begin a faster movement towards the northeast and east-northeast on Tuesday, accompanied by a gradual weakening over the next two days. Hurricane-force winds extend up to 65 kilometers (40 miles) from the center, while tropical storm winds reach a radius of up to 220 kilometers (140 miles).
