Minneapolis.- The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who killed an American woman in Minneapolis, in the state of Minnesota, during a protest last Wednesday, was dragged about 100 meters by a fleeing car in a previous raid, according to local media. The federal agent, identified by a local media outlet as Jonathan Ross, needed 20 stitches after the incident for a wound on his forearm. The driver who fled was convicted of assault last month, reports The New York Times today, which adds that Ross resides in Minneapolis and is a veteran with ten years of experience in the special response teams of ICE operations.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Star Tribune explains, according to a person close to the case and court documents, that the event occurred last June, when Ross was participating in the arrest of Roberto Carlos Muñoz-Guatemala, a Mexican citizen, who had been previously convicted and arrested.

U.S. Government Support for ICE

The Mexican, the media outlet assures, ignored the agents' orders, including the order to lower the window, which caused the federal agent to break his rear window and reach in to unlock the door, which led to him being dragged by the vehicle.

This history could, in part, reinforce the argument defended by the Donald Trump Administration, which claims that he shot until he ended the life of Renee Good, the 37-year-old woman who died this week, because she drove her car against him.

«Don't you think he might be a little sensitive to the idea of someone running him over with a car?» assured Vice President JD Vance at a press conference at the White House.

All members of the U.S. Government have supported ICE agents and have gone so far as to accuse the victim of "internal terrorism". However, although the investigation into the accident is still ongoing, this is not the account that the thousands of citizens who protested his death are betting on, nor all the political leaders who denounce that Ross's shots constituted an abuse of power.

Criticism of ICE for racism

Good died this Wednesday during a protest against the presence of ICE in the city. The woman, who blocked the agents' path with her car, was maneuvering her vehicle in the middle of the raid when the agents approached her to try to stop her and Ross, who was in front, shot her, ending her life. The United States government has sent about 2,000 federal agents to Minneapolis since the beginning of last December. The most populous city in the state of Minnesota was already the scene in 2020 of the murder of George Floyd, a mile from where Good's occurred, at the hands of a police officer, which unleashed a wave of anti-racist protests across the country. You can also read: Since its creation, ICE has accumulated numerous criticisms and complaints of discrimination and racism that have skyrocketed since the beginning of Trump's second term, which has made it the fundamental tool of his policy of mass deportations.
