Los Ángeles.- Tyler Robinson, the alleged perpetrator of the death of the ultraconservative American Charlie Kirk, appeared this Thursday for the first time in person in a Utah state court to answer for the seven charges he faces, in a hearing in which the presence of the public and the press was not allowed. State Judge Tony Graf asked the public and the press to withdraw from the initial part of the hearing, in which the confidentiality of a previous hearing in which the defendant appeared virtually would be addressed. This is the first time Robinson, 22 years old, has appeared in public after his arrest. Dressed in a light blue shirt and jeans, the young man looked calm while speaking with his lawyers before the start of the hearing.

The judge has allowed Robinson's parents to stay in the hearing sealed to the public, following a request from the defense. Graf is weighing the public's right to know the details of the case, due to the concern of Robinson's lawyers that the media attention avalanche may interfere with his right to a fair trial. The Utah County Sheriff's Department has asked the court to prohibit cameras in the courtroom, according to information cited by CBS.

The Charges Against Robinson

The Utah County Attorney's Office has charged Robinson with aggravated homicide for the September 10 shooting of the ultra-conservative activist on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem. In total, Robinson faces seven charges, which also include an accusation of firing a firearm causing serious bodily injury, in which the Prosecution also alleges "aggravating factors" because it is believed that the accused attacked Charlie Kirk "based on his political ideology and that he did so knowing that there were children present" who would witness the homicide.

Robinson is also doubly accused of obstruction of justice for moving and hiding the rifle and for getting rid of the clothes he was wearing when he fired. The Prosecution has said it will seek the death penalty against Robinson, who has not yet presented a formal statement on his guilt.
