Associations from the tourism sector of the Dominican Republic expressed their absolute rejection of the strike called by the Collective of Tourist Guide Organizations and made a firm call to abstain from actions that put the stability and security of national tourism at risk.
In a joint statement, the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), Association of Hotels of the East (ASOLESTE), Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Santiago (ASHORESA), Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Companies of the North (ASHONORTE), Association of Hotels of Juan Dolio, Association of Hotels of Santo Domingo (AHSD), Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (AHETSA), Association of Receptive Tour Operators of the Dominican Republic (OPETUR), Dominican Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (ADAVIT), La Romana Bayahibe Tourist Cluster, Bayahibe Maritime Transport Association (ASTRAMBA), Aquatic Transport Association of Bayahibe, Association of Excursion and Tourist Activities Companies of La Romana, Bayahibe and La Saona (ADETURBYS) reiterated their commitment to working together for the growth and expansion of the actors that are part of the tourism ecosystem, as a fundamental tool to face the growth and diversification exhibited by the industry.
“Our regulatory framework establishes the need for updating and technical improvement of our tourist guides, which allows for constant monitoring so that professionals stay up-to-date in their training and in the needs of a growing, diverse, modern, and demanding tourism. The licensing of tourist guides is a process that must be continuous in the search for the constant improvement of the national tourism offer,” they expressed.
Finally, the representatives of the convening group were invited to responsibly and constructively join the initiatives for professionalization and updating of the educational curriculum through universities, INFOTEP, and specialized schools proposed by the Ministry of Tourism, as well as to comply with the obligations of continuous supervision to maintain the standards of tourist quality in the Dominican Republic.
"Only through commitment to education, technical training, and professionalization of the entire value chain will we be able to maintain and sustain the growth of the Dominican Republic as the leading destination in the insular Caribbean," they concluded.
