The UN said on Monday that the new killing of a group of journalists working in Gaza, as a result of the bombing of a hospital by the Israeli Army, must push the world to act and demand accountability and justice.
"The killing of journalists in Gaza should shock the world, but not to leave it in stunned silence, but to push it to act, demanding accountability and justice," reacted the spokesperson for the United Nations Human Rights Office, Ravina Shamdasani.
He recalled that in a situation of war and famine such as that suffered by the Palestinian territory, the Israeli authorities have denied the entry of any foreign journalist since the beginning of the conflict.
At least 245 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023, according to the Gazan government, which is controlled by the Islamist movement Hamas.
"These journalists are the eyes and ears of the international community, and they must be protected. Their murders, and those of countless civilians, must be investigated independently and quickly," Shamdasani pointed out.
No known investigation or sanction has been imposed by Israel for any of the crimes against Palestinian journalists.
At least three of the five journalists killed this Monday by Israel worked for international media and at the time of their death were covering the Israeli bombing against a hospital in Gaza.
